LiDAR Scanners for Architects & Measured Building Surveys

LiDAR can replace large amounts of manual site measurement with a rapid 3D record of an existing building. For architects and measured-building surveyors, the key choice is not simply “which scanner is most accurate?” but which capture method fits the building, access constraints and final CAD or BIM deliverable.

Which FJD scanner should an architect choose?

Trion C1: a focused choice for rapid indoor room measurement and editable DXF floor-plan workflows. Trion P2: a lightweight professional SLAM option for whole-building capture, complex circulation and Scan-to-BIM point clouds. Trion T1: suited to projects that benefit from both mobile SLAM coverage and fixed-position terrestrial capture. Trion S2: suited to larger sites, longer routes and more demanding indoor/outdoor reality capture.

Do architects need RTK?

Often, no. If the building will be positioned manually in Revit, ArchiCAD or another design environment, an indoor SLAM survey can be completed without GNSS. RTK or survey control becomes more important when the deliverable must sit directly in a site or national coordinate system, or when indoor and outdoor geospatial datasets need to align.

Typical deliverables

  • Registered and colourised point clouds
  • Floor plans
  • Sections and elevations
  • Existing-condition records
  • CAD-ready DXF workflows
  • Point clouds for Revit, ArchiCAD and Scan-to-BIM
  • Textured 3D models where appropriate

Talk to LiDAR Tech UK about your building workflow

Tell us the building type, approximate size, access constraints and required output. We can help identify whether a focused indoor system such as C1, a lightweight SLAM scanner such as P2, or a hybrid system such as T1 is the better fit and arrange a UK demonstration.
