LiDAR Scanners for Scan-to-BIM, Revit & ArchiCAD

A successful Scan-to-BIM workflow starts with the required deliverable. LiDAR captures the existing geometry; processing turns the raw scan into a usable point cloud; CAD or BIM software then uses that data as the reference for modelling, drawings, sections and coordination.

Best FJD Trion options for Scan-to-BIM

Trion P2 is a strong compact option for rapid building capture and standard point-cloud export. Trion S2 extends the workflow to larger and longer-range projects. Trion T1 combines mobile SLAM and terrestrial scanning when a project needs rapid overall capture plus more detailed fixed-position work. Trion C1 is particularly relevant where the main requirement is fast indoor floor-plan capture and editable DXF output rather than a general-purpose survey scanner.

Can FJD point clouds be used in Revit and ArchiCAD?

Yes. FJD Trion workflows support standard point-cloud formats that can be transferred into downstream CAD and BIM workflows. The exact route depends on whether you need a registered point cloud, floor plans, elevations, sections, meshes or a fully modelled BIM deliverable.

Do I need GNSS for Scan-to-BIM?

Not necessarily. Many indoor building surveys are captured in a local coordinate system and positioned in the design model afterwards. GNSS, RTK, PPK or survey control is most useful when the scan must be georeferenced or aligned with other site survey data.

A practical Scan-to-BIM workflow

  1. Define the required accuracy and deliverables before scanning.
  2. Plan the capture route and any control requirements.
  3. Capture the building with the appropriate FJD Trion scanner.
  4. Process and quality-check the point cloud in FJD Trion Model.
  5. Export the required point-cloud format.
  6. Reference the data in Revit, ArchiCAD or the chosen CAD/BIM workflow.
  7. Model only to the level of detail required by the project.
